Please describe your relevant analytical skills. As chief administrator of a sizable professional firm, I have analyzed data, developed reports and charts, and utilized data for business purposes. Perhaps as important, analytical skills should utilize critical thinking to enable both understanding and explanation of the meaning of the data; a skill I have developed through business management and legal work.
Please describe your ability to be impartial. Although I do not believe anyone is capable of being impartial because every person has been influenced by their lifelong experiences, I do have the ability to listen, learn, and aim for objectivity. I can be aware of biases, and I expect myself to be unprejudiced, nonpartisan, and independent.
Please describe your appreciation for the City of Austin's diverse demographics and geography. Although this may not be the right time to pat ourselves and our city on the back, I will definitely express appreciation for our diverse demographics and geography and hope that all our city's efforts are consistent with preserving and enhancing those treasures.
Please provide your employment history. Before I retired in approximately 2017, I spent over 30 years as the administrator of the law firm of Bickerstaff, Heath. Although I did no legal work for the firm, I was involved in the policies and business of the firm. This experience involved conflict resolution, negotiation, intellectual curiosity, dependability, a strong work ethic, and writing skills that would survive second guessing by more than 30 lawyers. The combination of people skills, analytical skills, and a good heart kept me challenged for more than 30 years.
Please provide any other information you wish to be considered during the selection of the most qualified applicants for the Commission. My community engagement was limited while I worked and raised a family, however I consistently delivered meal for Meals on Wheels, participated and coordinated a Hands on Housing Program, and more recently worked with a voter assistance program and provided business assistance to an emerging arts organization. I have a solid understanding of the redistricting process and its history and objectives. I would like to contribute my time and expertise to ensuring a fair redistricting project.
