Please describe your ability to be impartial. | All citizens have input that is valuable and compromise is essential in dealing with complex issues affecting large or small populations. That said, a few "rules of engagement" must be established by the group for fairness to all. Various aspects of issues need to be explored, best practices agreed to. Minority as well as majority opinions are equally valuable and must be included in community discussions. Fact based information must be available (current and maybe historical), one needs to be informed (reading materials necessary to reach a conclusion), etc. in order for the group to perform and get good outcomes to occur. |
Please describe your appreciation for the City of Austin's diverse demographics and geography. | We were privileged to purchase our Austin home in a richly diverse neighborhood populated initially by current and retired air force families in the 1970's. I have taught as a volunteer literacy to adult illiterate, mostly minority citizens. My first boss as a professional was a very bright lady who happened to be black. My work experience in public education and health care included a diverse worker and diverse served population. Our current home is in a culturally and ethnically rich diverse community. Our church family is the same, my education has be ethnically diverse. My work experiences including Red Cross work has been ethnically and culturally diverse. |

We also need courteous-at least civil, honest, thoughtful-think through issues and potential solutions- persons. Decisions must be based on accurate data, prevailing laws, and could lead to exploring potential for an automated system in future years taking into account major issues of equity, accuracy, diversity and other necessary issues. Members should have a stake in Austin's future as residence owners. |
