Please describe your relevant analytical skills. | I have a masters of science technology and commercialization from the University of Texas and have extensive experience with financial documents in my role at Mission Capital. I served as a staffer in the state legislature in 2007 - 2009 working on the state water bill and natural resource legislations analyzing water flows, groundwater districts, etc. Additionally, I have served within the startup community doing work on market validation, equity, go to market strategy, etc. |
Please describe your ability to be impartial. | For the past 12 years, I have worked with the Annette Straus Institute teaching young republicans and democrats about political and civic organizing. I have been fortunate to be the longest-serving mentor because of my ability to be impartial and think of the greater good of the students and participants. Additionally, I work with all parties when consulting with non-profit boards and teaching best practices and supporting their development. I do not believe a personal party makes them morally superior or inherently correct. I believe I am independent and my only goal is for Austin to be the best city possible. |
Please describe your appreciation for the City of Austin's diverse demographics and geography. | This question centers me and my whiteness in my work on racial equity and diversity. I have done the work for the past 10 years to learn more about our history by participating in Leadership Austin, the Anti-Defamation Leagues Glass Fellowship, Beyond Diversity, and Undoing Racism. I have more work to do and I will continue to do that work. |
Please provide your employment history. | https://www.linkedin.com/in/matthewglazer/ |
Please provide any other information you wish to be considered during the selection of the most qualified applicants for the Commission. | I sit on the board for The Other Ones Foundation and E4 Youth as well as being the former vice chair of the Skillpoint Alliance. I have been highly active in our non-profit community for 15 years as a staffer and board member on a range of issues. Additionally, I am highly active in local accelerators and incubators as a mentor and coach. I do the work, engage in questions, dig in on data, and am not swayed by political arguments. I want to be on this commission because the way our district maps are drawn empowers and creates equity on a good day. If they are done wrong, the will disenfranchise and prevent thousands from having a voice in our community. The stakes are too high and I would like to serve. |
