Please describe your relevant analytical skills. As an analyst by trade, I have over 15 years of analytical work experience. As a business analyst, I learn processes, problems, and figure out both creatively and functionally on how to improve or make the situation better. I've learned to listen to people, learn the materials, and work together to solve problems
Please describe your ability to be impartial. Not every problem/ situation can be solved. Not everything is clear black and white. You cant help but have pre-deposed bias, opinions, and ideas. However, the key is realizing and being aware that you have these. Thus, I then often take a step back and think about my decisions, thoughts, and truly question whether I am being impartial. Having served on 4 jury duties, I know the importance of being impartial.
Please describe your appreciation for the City of Austin's diverse demographics and geography. Like a lot of people, I have moved here from another state. Friends and family back in my home state often ask me what I think about Austin, and whether I would move back. I 100% absolutely love Austin, I do not intend on moving back, and I love Austin more than my home city or any other city. Having road tripped and traveled to over 30 states, I can appreciate the diversity in both demographic and in culture that Austin has. When I first moved here, I lived on East Riverside by Montopolis, then I moved to South Austin by Manchacca and Stassney (Crockett Highschool), then I moved to South Congress. Now, I reside in Oak Hill, and also have a place on the East 4th St. Each of those areas have something that makes them awesome and cool. I love looking at real estate for run on RedFin and Zillow, and I often drive out to various areas in Austin just to explore. I often have taken my bike to an area and just bike around to explore. I can honestly say I have explored many many nooks and cranny of Austin. What I love about Austin, are the people. Not only are they from different ethnics, but we all have come from different states as well! I believe that this is what makes Austin extra unique.
Please provide your employment history. 1) Resident Advisor in college. I believe that being an RA plays a HUGE role and impact on who I am today. We had all sorts of training, from diversity training, to learning how to deescalate a situation, suicide prevention, sexual harassment, the list goes on. Being in RA has also opened up my eyes and I've met a lot of good friends that I do not share the same background, ideals, and opinions as I do. 2) Finance - as an analyst in various industries (banking, mortgage, healthcare, health services, government, investment, etc) - I am able to bring the knowledge from these various industries and apply them to the committee. I will also bring my analytical experience to help process all of the information that comes through. 3) Co-owner of mortgage company - I started my own company back in 2007 through 2009. I know what it is like to work a regular job and what it is like to start your own business. I can appreciate the qualities in both working for someone as well as working for yourself. 4) Business Analyst/ Data Analyst for Department of Veterans Affairs - I know what it is like to work for a federal agency, I know the red tapes, and bureaucracy, and I have been able to excel at my job and completely many projects.
Please provide any other information you wish to be considered during the selection of the most qualified applicants for the Commission. I immigrated from the U.S when I was 7 years old. My family was poor, I shared a room with 2 of my sisters. My dad lost his arm during the Vietnam war, so he was not able to work many jobs. He ended up being a delivery driver. My mother, was a nanny, and we relied on foodstamps, medicare, and government assistance. As an real estate owner of several properties in various parts of Austin. I am vested in the well being of tenants, the people of the communities, my neighbors, friends, and constituents. I'm proud of my success, but I've been taught to face the world with humility and grace, and that everything could be taken away. In the end, it is about building a better world, a better community. I dont think "I've made it", instead, I remember where I've come from, the challenges I faced, and I want to help, guide, and share to others on how to achieve their goals.
