Please describe your relevant analytical skills. Whenever I tackle a project, I start by identifying the problem, researching it, and then approach my team with multiple solutions. It’s about trial and error and collaboration, since we all think differently and have unique experiences. Critical thinking allows me to understand all aspects of a problem and back up a step further to understand why a problem exists in the first place. When conducting research, I like to review both quantitative and qualitative data to understand both the human and the scientific side of a problem.
Please describe your ability to be impartial. I understand that changing your own views is difficult, and unless one approaches it with the upmost sincerity, people are going to reject an opposing way of thinking. Because I know that, it helps me to stay neutral when necessary and practice empathy when communicating.
Please describe your appreciation for the City of Austin's diverse demographics and geography. I grew up in Kyle when it was a small country town. Coming to Austin was always exciting, because the diversity and culture was something we didn’t see in Kyle. I’ve watched the city explode over the years and have seen the struggles that come with that.
Please provide your employment history. I most recently was the Administrative Assistant for the HR Department of Health and Human Services Commission. Before that, I was the Senior Admin for a department at Austin Community College in their Special Populations group. Over the past eight years I’ve worked with a variety of teams that serve state employees, community college students, city employees, and citizens of Texas. I often hear firsthand their problems and have learned a lot along the way.
Please provide any other information you wish to be considered during the selection of the most qualified applicants for the Commission. I’m ready to see a change in the way our districts are structured. I believe the Commission should be composed of a cross-section of our citizens, both in race, age, and gender.
