Please describe your relevant analytical skills. Developed critical-thinking and ability to think outside the box when presented with problems. Attention to detail is what makes a difference between mediocre or outstanding work, I always take the time to make sure everything has been taken into account. As a Corrections Officer I had to make quick decisions that would impact both the well being of an inmate and those of fellow officers, often times under direct physical, emotional, and psychological stress. My analytical skills were developed both academically and through experience working in business, law enforcement and emergency medicine.
Please describe your ability to be impartial. I worked as a Correctional Officer and an AISD High School Security Officer. In all of my experience from different types of jobs never has being impartial been as critical there than any other job. One must make decisions that can affect both parties negatively, with the possibility of repercussions from either one. The key is honesty, when presented with facts both parties can understand why one action was taken against or for them.
Please describe your appreciation for the City of Austin's diverse demographics and geography. I come from El Paso, the borderland city from Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. While the diversity of Austin is what captivated me about this city, there is still more we can do to ensure the diversity in this city does not mean a sharp contrast in quality of life. Austin is an oasis in the middle of a state that is ever more divided across party lines, race, and social-economic levels. I love that in Austin we try to address these issues but that is not enough, we must tackle them head on even if that makes us uncomfortable. We cannot hope to make progress dealing with issues the same way forever expecting a different result. I love Austin, it is the city that gave me hope for this great nation where I found freedom and opportunity. Where we take care of our green spaces and take care of each other. We can always do better and thats what I hope to accomplish.

Please provide any other information you wish to be considered during the selection of the most qualified applicants for the Commission. I left home when I was 16, was homeless for the summer of my Junior year in High school and worked in the fields to pay rent for a small apartment. I have worked myself up from that, through my journey I have picked out a vast array of skills and experience, dealt with a diverse amount of people leading me to understand their struggles as I too have gone through them. I have seen the worst our country has to offer, I have met my challenges and overcome them, I understand what needs to be done to make this an equitable country that works for all of us and it starts at the local level.
