Please describe your ability to be impartial. I believe any attempt to describe just how impartial I can be would instead show how partial I am to desiring to be on the Commission. As a manager in a public company that follows equal employment opportunity policies, I must show a high level of impartialness when hiring, managing and retaining employees. As a manager responsible for a department whose role is to support a larger organization (the company itself), I need to frequently balance the desires and needs of my department with those of other departments in the company itself. This requires a long term outlook to being fair and just, which are critical components of being impartial. As a motorist, cyclist and pedestrian, I frequently have to understand and manage the competing priorities and concerns of these different groups to understand and act in a fair and impartial manner.

Please describe your appreciation for the City of Austin's diverse demographics and geography. Over the 20+ years I have lived in Austin, I've lived in both South and North Austin. I've spent those years immersing myself in the culture and personality of Austin. From visiting Barton Springs and enjoying the pool, to visiting the Cathedral of Junk in South Austin and admiring the views, to working for a local Austin company for 18+ years, I've seen this beautiful city change drastically. Even when I first moved here and lived off East Riverside, I would bike past Runtex most days and enjoy running around Town Lake, swimming at Deep Eddy, and chatting and sharing a newspaper with Leslie while waiting for a table at Magnolia at Lake Austin Blvd. Over another section of years I participated in triathlon and ran, biked and swam all over the Austin (and further!) area, gaining further insights into both the demographics and geography of Austin. Over another section of years I moved up to North Austin where Dell originally had its offices and started a family. I have lived for over a decade in a neighborhood whose households span from Section 8 housing to Silicon Hills tech employees. While married to my wife of 14 years (and counting), we've been involved, both personally and financially, in community organizations such as Mother's Milk Bank Austin. This has further expanded my understanding of the geography and demographics that make Austin the unique city it is.
Please provide your employment history. My relevant employment history has all taken place at Luminex Corporation in Austin, TX. I've worked there for approximately 18 years, moving from an individual technical contributor to managing a multi-national team located in multiple countries and working with my team to manage company sites around the globe. I manage a variety of tasks for my employer which require excellent analytical, communication and negotiation skills.
Please provide any other information you wish to be considered during the selection of the most qualified applicants for the Commission. I'm a relatively new (less than 2 years) father to a rare but quickly growing demographic: a native Austinite. I want him to grow up in an Austin both he and I are proud and happy to be call ourselves citizens, residents and contributing members.
