Please describe your relevant analytical skills. I am able to work with computers, read and learn about the history of Austin and see how and why decisions are made. I am not 100% involved in the political aspect of the City of Austin, but I want to change that and become more informed and involved community member. I am able to take direction, listen without judgement and do my part as a team player to get things done. I can be vocal when needed and feel comfortable talking to a group of people that I don't know.
Please describe your ability to be impartial. I am a student and have no funds or real financial stakes in decisions that are made in the city. My ambition and goal is to become an integrated and involved citizen of Austin that creates equal and equitable opportunities for all its residents, INCLUDING those who have made Austin a rich and diverse city in terms of culture, not money. This would be my first opportunity to do my part as a resident of Austin to make a difference.

Please describe your appreciation for the City of Austin's diverse demographics and geography. Austin has many opportunities to become an inclusive and culturally diverse city, but this has to happen when you have elected officials that represent the diversity that exists in the city. The city has so many natural wonders that should be accessible to everyone, not just in one area of Austin. In order to bring that beauty to everyone, we need to be fair in how it's represented. I fell in love with the city of Austin 7 years ago and have continued to support local causes that enrich diversity, but the City of Austin can do better, we can be an inclusive and truly diverse city with the involvement of everyone in the city, not just by the ones that can conveniently can be involved.
Please provide your employment history. I worked for almost 6 years as a Recreation Therapist at Austin State Hospital. There I worked with various personalities and attitudes, worked with individuals who were in manic states and would say racial remarks to me, but I was able to continue on with my job and focus on what I needed to do, which was help them heal and be the best version of themselves. I am trained with de-escalation techniques, strong communication, and being able to facilitate groups of 2-60 people at a time. I am also bilingual in Spanish and English, am currently a nursing student at the Unviversity of Texas at Austin.
Please provide any other information you wish to be considered during the selection of the most qualified applicants for the Commission. I am a nursing student with goals of learning about how community and public health can be positively impacted when elected officials are representative of community. I am interested in this as an opportunity to learn, grow and make an impact to my community. I am willing to go the extra mile in order to make Austin a better place.
