Please describe your relevant analytical skills. As a teacher I am continuously using data to inform my instructions and daily lessons. In today’s classroom, there is little we do without analyzing the data to ensure our lessons are targeted and productive. I believe this ability to look at data, growth and trends will help me on this committee.

Please describe your ability to be impartial. Data is impartial. It’s how we use it that can be partisan or impartial. I would like to see the end to gerrymandering all over the country -and that means using data in an impartial way to draw district and other voter lines. There literally is no other more important way to ensure that everyone’s voice is equally heard-whether they are republican, Democrat or any other political stripe.

Please describe your appreciation for the City of Austin's diverse demographics and geography. I love Austin for the very diverse nature of its citizenry (As well as the natural beauty we are surrounded by). Austin is a melting pot of races, nationalities, socioeconomic and other types of people. I live in North Austin in an extremely diverse neighborhood (often jokingly referred to as the United Nations) and I love it. Diversity is the strength of our nation and this city and it’s important that as many voices as possible are heard to continue that strength.
Please provide your employment history. As a teacher at a Title 1 school in a low income area of Austin (on Rundberg at 35) I am aware of the many challenges facing our city. Gentrification, assimilation and the strength or weakness of various communities is something we need to be aware of when redistricting.
Please provide any other information you wish to be considered during the selection of the most qualified applicants for the Commission. I work well with people of all walks of life, and have been an involved community member for my entire adult life, for the most part in the PTA and Youth sports . As my kids leave the nest, I am looking for new avenues to be involved in other ways.
