Please describe your ability to be impartial. To be impartial, it is essential to have the ability to step back and look at the big picture. With my training in engineering, problem solving and laying out the scope of the issue is a required skill that I can bring as an asset to the commission. Additionally, I have experience in evaluating and reviewing data for bias and models for performance. This requires an objective mindset not to force fit the data to make the outcome you want or expect to see. Having a critical lens and knowledge of common issues related to data integrity would be added to the commission if I am chosen. Finally, I embrace showing respect to all and believe that all voices should have a chance to speak. I rely on multiple vantage points from diverse perspectives to better understand my own biases and gives myself space for self-examination. By being open to conversation and challenge of my position allows me to have an impartial mindset.
Please describe your appreciation for the City of Austin's diverse demographics and geography. As a native Austinite, I have had the amazing opportunity to see our city from many different perspectives. Growing up here, my family struggled to makes ends meet and we moved often to find the cheapest housing available in Austin. While difficult at times, this did allowed me to become connected to multiple communities and be part of many areas of Austin from Rundberg to Riverside and even Allandale. As a student at UT, I got to experience more of the cultural aspects the city has to offer and see how big of an influence the student community has on Austin, and how Austin influences the students growth as well. As a working professional, I see how large companies drive growth and create opportunities in North Austin and Downtown, while others areas are left behind only to later experience the effects of gentrification. My time here informs me of what Austin was, how we have changed, and allows me to envision what we could be as a cohesive city.
