Please describe your relevant analytical skills. I have a Business degree (BBA) and a very analytical mindset. I also look beyond numbers to consider humanistic impacts and considerations. I tend to dwell thoroughly in order to identify and consider all aspects and facets of an issue or problem, and endeavor to view through others' perspectives to ensure the best communication & prevent missing important considerations.
Please describe your ability to be impartial. I'm very good at recognizing roles I may have, their obligations, purposes & duties, & conducting myself objectively in a manner to best meet those. I can separate roles from my personal situation & disassociate my personal inclinations from duties I may have.
Please describe your appreciation for the City of Austin's diverse demographics and geography. I hold a conviction that a diverse collection of different perspectives & experiences is to the great benefit of the whole, as we can all learn from each other & that allows for identifying aspects that more uniform collections of people may miss. I was born in Austin & lived in the Austin area for all of my 45 years, so I have observed closely the many & great changes to the city. I recognize that Austin has great diversity of some groups, while also relatively limited diversity in regards to other groups.
Please provide your employment history. I've enjoyed holding various jobs that have featured extensive human contact & allowed me to interact with a wide variety of people. - Contract Monitor, TX Dept of Housing & Community Affairs 2012-present (incl. onsite monitoring of various state & federal housing & weatherization programs) - Asset Manager, Southwest Housing Compliance Corp 2008-2012 (onsite monitoring of project-based Section 8) - Intern analyst, Strategic Forecasting (Stratfor) 2007-08 - Finished my degree at University of TX - Bartender/Server, Zax Pints & Plates 2004-05 - Bartender, Tambaleo 2003-2005 - Bartender/Server Reed's Jazz & Supper Club 2002-2004 - Server, The Oasis 2002-2003 - Bartender/Server, North By Northwest 1999-2002 - Sales Associate, Party Barn 1996-99 - Server, Red Lobster 1994-95
Please provide any other information you wish to be considered during the selection of the most qualified applicants for the Commission. While my degree (BBA) is Finance, my core interest is government, current events & related issues local, domestic & global. Thus when I returned to finish my degree at UT I added on a minor in Government. Rather than a purely corporate role, I've always wanted to be doing something where I feel like I'm working to improve society or help it function for others. I also have a deep appreciation for the role of geography in society & human events. I truly want to see Austin reach its potential as a thriving, diverse place that leaves no segment behind or ignored.
