Please describe your relevant analytical skills. | -- My work as a chemist in a variety of jobs involved drawing conclusions on the basis of data analysis, mathematical modeling, and the use of statistics to determine whether differences in data sets were signifiant. -- I took two GIS (Geographic Information Systems) courses at ACC and learned to use GIS software to visualize and analyze demographic and other types of data. |
Please describe your ability to be impartial. | -- My training and work as a scientist has always involved and required the dispassionate analysis of data. -- My approach to all but the most personal of questions is rational and fact-based. In the workplace I have been known as someone who makes decisions and also manages people based on facts and data rather than hunches, personalities, or emotion. |
Please describe your appreciation for the City of Austin's diverse demographics and geography. | I've lived in Austin since the late 70s, for the last ~ 35 years in University Hills in northeast Austin. We moved to this neighborhood so that our children could grow up in an integrated area. I appreciate the contributions that all residents have to make in our city, and try to practice "kind curiosity" when talking with others so that I can see what their experiences have been without overlaying my expectations or experience on theirs. |
Please provide your employment history. | LinkedIn profile: https://www.linkedin.com/in/tamara-voynick-6894b39 -- I have held a variety of jobs as a chemist, including at the University of Texas, Texas Research International, and Abbott Laboratories. SKILLS include: Data analysis, communication of results -- For the last 16 years I worked as an editor and manager at HMH in the science department. SKILLS include: Editing, managing a team of 10+ people who worked together well and helped each other complete our projects. -- Current volunteer position (for 7+ years) as a support group facilitator SKILLS: Facilitating group discussions, making sure all feel heard. |
Please provide any other information you wish to be considered during the selection of the most qualified applicants for the Commission. | I think the combination of my * analytical skills from my life as a scientist, * skills working with groups as a manager at HMH and as a volunteer * GIS skills from 2 coursed at ACC make me an interesting candidate for the Commission.
