Please describe your relevant analytical skills. I used to work in the insurance industry
Please describe your ability to be impartial. I am very neutral when it comes to politics and have a great deal of empathy and compassion for my fellow humans/citizens.
Please describe your appreciation for the City of Austin's diverse demographics and geography. Austin's diverse and varied culture is the main reason I always wanted to live here.
Please provide your employment history. I have a very diverse/varied background. I have lived all over the United States, but in Texas since about 1980. We lived and worked on a dairy farm when I was attending high school. I then waited tables through college at Angelo State University, and post-college until I found employment at USAA - I was living in San Antonio with family at the time. I was a Senior Insurance Specialist, worked there for about 6 years then married a man in the tech industry, so we moved to Austin (which is where I always wanted to live!) I have been a homemaker ever since, and I have been involved in some politics locally (I was a state delegate during the presidential campaign of 2008 which was a very educational experience) and I have helped bring the neighbors on our street together into a cohesive group, as I believe all neighbors and neighborhoods should be!
Please provide any other information you wish to be considered during the selection of the most qualified applicants for the Commission. I believe I can add value to the panel as a female and as a compassionate human being with a huge variety of friends and skills. I also have cared for my grandmother in our home, until her passing - so I have a great deal of understanding of the needs of seniors. We have many friends of different races, ethnic and cultural backgrounds and various age groups. My husband is also an avid cyclist, and competes in bike racing, so I have a great deal to offer in this area as well.
