Please describe your relevant analytical skills. Having experience in both the entertainment and financial sector, I have during and since college been required to analyze complex and diverse information to provide coherent and easy to understand reports and assessments of situations. I have a good understanding of different types of information that can be balanced to provide an informed decision. I have prepared many reports that have driven strategic business outcomes and have worked on complex projects that have required me to take into account the opinions and feedback of diverse audiences.
Please describe your ability to be impartial. I believe that the key to being impartial is excellent listening skills and my experience of working in environments that have a diverse workforce. I always try to remove the emotion of a situation and appreciate that everyone sees their problems through a different lens and I should not see it through mine but attempt to see what is best for the greater good of the collective or community rather than what is influenced by my past experiences.
Please describe your appreciation for the City of Austin's diverse demographics and geography. Having been born and raised in Austin, I have seen the changes and growth that has been brought about by the influx of new people from around the country and the world. The fast growth of Austin has put it on the map in terms of innovation and creativity. I am proud to tell anyone I am from Austin whenever I travel nationally and internationally. The diversity of cultures is what makes Austin a wonderful place to live. It is not without challenges but I believe we are at an amazing point in time where we can shape the future of Austin as a larger community not just for those who were born in Austin but those who have come from far and wide to enhance and enrich the city. I have lived in other places in the US and with this experience I have certainly appreciated Austin more than ever. I’m proud to call it home and I want to be a part of maintaining its rich history while helping to develop a strong and diverse future. Being married to someone from another country I have also been able to further enhance my understanding of the image of Austin and I appreciate truly the diversity of all that Austin has to offer those who come with their skills and experiences from other places.
Please provide your employment history. I have worked in retail and corporate jobs in Austin as well as in Los Angeles, New York and Boston. I’ve met many different people with diverse backgrounds and heritages as well as a significant age range. Retail roles have afforded me the opportunity to listen to people and their experiences and I find this fascinating and informative. I have led teams of people as well as be part of a team. Currently I am a delivery driver in Austin and get to see every part of the city and how it is changing and developing on a daily basis. I work with many people who are a lot younger than me and I am able to hear their thoughts and opinions on Austin and how it is changing and developing. I worked for a number of years for our family tax business and was involved in seeing how local businesses contributed significantly to the fabric of Austin.
Please provide any other information you wish to be considered during the selection of the most qualified applicants for the Commission. I care about Austin and the people who live here and who want to live here. I’ve grown up here and seen the wonderful changes and want to ensure everyone gets equal representation. My family are here and we all care deeply about ensuring Austin is a true reflection of those who live, work and play here. This is the ideal way for me to give back to my community. I am at a stage in life where I am able to look back and learn yet look forward and grow.
