Please describe your relevant analytical skills. As an engineer over the years, and even now as a Project Manager, I've had to design, conduct, and summarize tests & test-results. As a semiconductor process engineer, this was one of the most widely used skills to make any process change decisions. Being able to look for trends, understand data, and specifically how to isolate & remove bias is critical. I am also a Six Sigma Black Belt, which also dives deep into data analysis and how to design tests to collect useful information.
Please describe your ability to be impartial. As previously mentioned, my background in engineering has bestowed upon me an inherent ability to rely on data to make decisions. Obviously that can't be the ONLY method to come to a conclusion, but being able to look at numbers, and leave any sort of bias out is the goal. In addition to this, being aware of any internal bias is key; without self-awareness, it's impossible to know when to check those potential conflicts. I try to give every situation a fair shake, and gather all relevant information before coming to a conclusion.
Please describe your appreciation for the City of Austin's diverse demographics and geography. First and foremost, this is my hometown, I was born and raised in Austin. After moving west during my formative years, I have found myself (and my family) back in Austin because, well, because it is home. Following right behind that, is I'm an educated Hispanic male, which places me squarely in the 'fray' of diversity and local geography. I love the diversity we have in Austin, it's part of what gives it it's character; this cannot be lost. Otherwise, the charm that defines Austin will be lost.
Please provide your employment history. As previously mentioned, I received my BS in mechanical engineering, and have had a successful career in engineering and project management. I am a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) as well as being a certified Six Sigma Black Belt. A quick run-down of my resume is below: - University of New Mexico, BSME, '03 - Mechanical Systems Engineer & PM, IBM (Boulder, CO) '03 - '06 - Test Engineering Team Lead, IBM - Ricoh (Boulder, CO) '06 - '11 - Sales & Market Research, Upslope Brewing Co., (Austin, TX) '12 - '13 - Equipment & Process Engineer, Samsung Austin Semiconductor (Austin, TX) '13 - '15 - Sr. Project Manager (Operations), YETI (Austin, TX) '15 - '20 - Operations & NPI Proj. Mgr, enviolo (Leander, TX) '20 - current
Please provide any other information you wish to be considered during the selection of the most qualified applicants for the Commission. To summarize, I'm a Hispanic Austin native, with a BSME, and storied career. I love my hometown, and as of late have been looking for ways to give back to my community; this just feels like the right spot to start that effort.
