Please describe your relevant analytical skills. I have a degree in economics and graduate studies in business as well as transportation planning. I have worked as a consultant and analyst. Show me your budget, and I'll tell you where you're going.
Please describe your ability to be impartial. I don't think it's possible to be completely impartial. I bring with me a litany of subconscious and implicit biases. Impartiality is practiced, and I will consistently check my own biases and attempt to best represent the interests of Austin's broader community, rather than my own.
Please describe your appreciation for the City of Austin's diverse demographics and geography. Austin is a cultural, political, lingual nexus. We have the world's best tacos and the best Kreyol food I've had outside of Port Au Prince. Our city sits at the meeting of cypress swamps with semi-arid plains and of course our beautifully unique hill country. Austin's diversity is threatened by an increasing crisis of affordability, and our environment by persistent suburban sprawl.
Please provide your employment history. My career has involved consulting, analytics, and sales. At the core of each of these is listening. You can't come in with preconceived notions. You have to put your own ego in check and learn before you try to fix anything.
Please provide any other information you wish to be considered during the selection of the most qualified applicants for the Commission. Austin stands at a crossroads- we can either become a lily-white, anglo-only urban core with transit-inaccessible workforce housing put where it's out of sight and out of mind, sprawling in every direction for a dozen miles of mind-numbing chains, or we can protect austin's diverse history, bring back affordability, and keep austin weird.
