Please describe your relevant analytical skills. As someone with an advance degree connected to government & policy I am well versed in analytical strategy related to policy & processes involving public interest. I have also served in similar capacity in the City of Arlington, TX, working with diverse shareholders, analyzing data & using it to address citywide priorities.
Please describe your ability to be impartial. I have served as a Commissioner for Austin’s Community Development Commission, and have worked side by side with people from various walks of life & political belief, in leadership positions with Rotary International & NAACP.
Please describe your appreciation for the City of Austin's diverse demographics and geography. I have lived in the Travis County part of Austin (North/South) and the Williamson County part of Austin (North). I have worked in East, Southeast, Central, South, West, and North Austin. I have come to know and love so much of Austin and how it exists as one and as many all at the same time. The historical & cultural relevance of East Austin, metropolitan/urban vibe of Central Austin, the natural beauty & yet untamed feel of South Austin, the vintage and traditional aspects of West Austin, and mix of old & new of North Austin. There is such a diversity of people, lifestyles and purpose in Austin and even as established as it is, this city is still finding itself, brimming with untapped potential.
Please provide your employment history. I have had a broad & diverse work history in Austin, serving many roles such as handling packages with FedEx, serving as a bellman at the Four Seasons, working in the prep foods department at Whole Foods, teaching/tutoring high school test prep with Princeton Review, serving as a Outreach Director for E4 Youth (a non-profit doing workforce development with underserved youth), and currently working with a Princeton Review (where I’ve been for three years) as Operations Specialist - Instructor Development, National Recruiting. All of these work experiences give me the ability to relate to just about every type of citizen in this city and understand how they will be affected by the lines drawn during the Redistricting process. I have strong interpersonal communication skills as well as the ability to see the big picture and break it down into digestible pieces. I am also able to take small indecipherable pieces and connect them to a bigger picture & narrative, which will be useful in trying to assess how previously disconnected neighborhoods or areas might be newly brought together.
Please provide any other information you wish to be considered during the selection of the most qualified applicants for the Commission. While I have not been a voting citizen of Austin for five consecutive years, I have been hear almost Four years (in October) and was an active citizen during my first stint in Austin (Dec 2009 - Nov 2011). I hope this combined history is able to make me eligible for what would be an incredible opportunity.
