Please describe your relevant analytical skills. -I've worked in various fields and roles that require gathering information and making sure it is communicated accurately and efficiently. I've worked as a writer and editor and have often had to analyze pieces from technical to journalistic for clarity. -In IT, I've spent over a decade asking probing questions, isolating issues, getting to the root of the matter in order to address the right factors. This also includes collecting data and scanning for trends. -As a current volunteer, I take anywhere from very minimal to mass amounts of varying data to follow a rubric and give an accurate score, where some questions are empirical but others are subjective. Much like grading when I was a teacher.
Please describe your ability to be impartial. My current work involves a lot of procedural decisioning, including many legal requirements for countries all over the world. I'm often asked to make exceptions to these rules, and have to determine under what circumstances, if any, that would be suitable. If it's a legal concern or requirement, that trumps all, for compliance purposes.
Please describe your appreciation for the City of Austin's diverse demographics and geography. I grew up in Houston, only to later learn it was the most diverse city in the US. Since then, I've met people from all sorts of backgrounds over a total of ~17 years in Austin. I've lived in various parts of the city, starting as a college student living on Pleasant Valley in the late 1990s. When I first moved back to Austin in 2007, I taught in Del Valle. My own family is mixed and I grew up with traditions from both Italian- and Mexican/German-American families, though there are many more regions represented in my heritage. Diversity is strength. Diversity of experience and ideas is a better way to improve or build upon existing paradigms, or change them altogether.
Please provide your employment history. -Taught for 4 years in Aldine and Houston ISDs -Taught for a year in Del Valle ISD, subject World Cultures -Worked as an advertising editor for two years -Worked with current employer in IT since 2008; supported multiple products, have had rotations in technical writing, project readiness, QA and User Acceptance testing for software
Please provide any other information you wish to be considered during the selection of the most qualified applicants for the Commission. -Obtained CMAP certification in 2019 -Volunteer work with Austin Pets Alive! since the start of 2019.
