Please describe your relevant analytical skills. I design software for testing flight software, and do an insane amount of analysis to make sure that we are compliant with FAA standards. I am also an advocate for housing in Austin, and am very familiar with the OpenData datasets that the city publishes. I've helped my neighborhood association and non-profit organizations make sense of complex regulatory documents and I've generated maps for a variety of issues.

Please describe your ability to be impartial. I won't pretend like I don't have strong opinions, but I strongly believe that consistency and impartiality are an important part of governance. Anecdotally, I serve on my neighborhood plan contact team. Our mission is to faithfully implement the neighborhood plan, and it's not uncommon for us to weigh in on a proposed development or change. I've supported changes that I am personally against but were consistent with the plan, and I've accepted that things that I like that aren't consistent with the plan.

Please describe your appreciation for the City of Austin's diverse demographics and geography. I strongly believe in creating an Austin for All. It's viscerally upsetting to me that this city is so racially and economically segregated, and I consider working to dismantle the structural elements that keep it that way to be of paramount importance. I grew up in a black majority neighborhood, and I'm the first person from my family to graduate from high school, much less college. Opportunity and diversity go hand in hand, and we must never stop fighting to make this city a truly equitable place for everyone.
Please provide your employment history. I've worked for National Instruments as a Systems Software Engineer since 2015. As I stated above, that entails digesting complex regulatory documents and detailed diagrams, and creating something that satisfies all requirements and safety standards. A large part of my role consists of Requirements Engineering, which is rooted in the idea that rather than creating a solution and figuring out if it works, you start by understanding the needs of all of the stakeholders. This creates accountability and traceability that your implementation is producing the outcomes that you desire. I think that this is a skill that could be useful in this process as it would provide us a way to measure the effectiveness of a proposal against consistent criteria.
Please provide any other information you wish to be considered during the selection of the most qualified applicants for the Commission. I'm passionate about equality and equity, and I believe that Austin is a great city that is on the precipice of being even greater. Having the opportunity to help give everyone in Austin a voice would be a great honor for me, and I would love to help with this process.
