Please describe your relevant analytical skills. During the 5 years I spent managing a software quality assurance team, I selected and customized a defect management system that could create customized defect reports that could be consumed by software developers and their management. As a project manager and software development manager, I later used this database to triage which defects needed to be worked on first and determine needed staffing levels. As a project manager I managed development schedules and resources of 80 people with complex interdependencies. I was able to Use software project management tools to project staffing needs and highlight to senior executives resource shortfalls before they occurred.
Please describe your ability to be impartial. As a project manager, I was responsible for bringing project to a successful completion but with no direct control over the people doing the work. Impartiality gave me the credibility and respect of various team members to find win-win solutions. A lot of times I had to be a facilitator to bring teams together who had conflicting priorities and work through their differences. My challenge was to nudge people towards making the right choices for success while making them think they made those choices on their own.
Please describe your appreciation for the City of Austin's diverse demographics and geography. Austin Has been my home for 44 years. I’ve seen it grow up right before my eyes. I was a board member for the Financial Literacy Coalition of Central Texas until 2017 and the reason I got involved was because I did not want to see Austin turn into another San Francisco where there is virtually no economic and racial diversity. Being diverse causes us to think differently (“Keep Austin Weird”) and to pull together various groups for big issues like homelessness, traffic COVID-19, and recruiting a company like Tesla. Our beautiful city is amazing at sunset with the bats, peaceful in the morning on the various trails, and blazing with color in the Spring. Our hills and lakes are breathtaking. I cannot think of a better place to live.
