Please describe your relevant analytical skills. My former career as a software development manager required detailed analysis of project tracking and timeline data to produce the desired project deliverables on time and within budget. These skills combined with critical thinking and clear communication supported my other roles as a product manager and product owner.
Please describe your ability to be impartial. In my opinion, impartiality is critical, especially when working with groups and polarizing topics. I have and can in the future treat all parties whether in agreement with or not equally, without showing a bias for a group or individual.
Please describe your appreciation for the City of Austin's diverse demographics and geography. The city of Austin continues to be an amazing melting pot of cultures. Each decade brings new groups into our city. And they bring with them their culture and cusine. You only have to look at how many unique grocery stores we have now compared to even 10 years ago. Pick your culture and I can probably tell you where to shop. Through my 23 years of delivering Meals on Wheels in Austin, I have explored neighborhoods most have not seen or didn't know existed. And I have seen these neighborhoods change overtime with MOW delivery clients moving further and further away from the city center. I am also sensitive to Austin's diverse physical geography. From the protected Balcones Canyon Lands and Edwards aquifer in the west - southwest to our disappearing eastern farms and the suburban boundaries of Travis and Williamson county to the north. The Austin metroplex continues to grow at a mind-boggling rate. Each area needing strong representation to meet their needs and concerns.
Please provide your employment history. I worked in the financial services software industry for the majority of my 30-year career for various Fortune 500 companies and clients. I managed numerous global teams who successfully bonded into cohesive units to achieve joint goals. I have also maintained a strong involvement with Austin charities, environmental groups, volunteer organizations, and civic organizations.
Please provide any other information you wish to be considered during the selection of the most qualified applicants for the Commission. Reflecting on the past four city councils - two councils elected from single-member districts and two elected city-wide, I am a firm believer in single-member districts. With that being said, I do believe that our council members should have share constituencies. Meaning one council member should not represent the urban core and no suburban residents. Redistricting should have a finely balanced outcome.
