Please describe your relevant analytical skills. As an Architect it is my job to develop with clients programmatic requirements for their project. This includes the ability to communicate and understand the client's needs. Then develop solutions which best utilizes available means, methods, and budget.
Please describe your ability to be impartial. I am active member of the business community and have championed many pro business issues. I was a long time member of the South Austin Civic Club, having been President for two year, Vice President for one year, and Board Member for six. In that role I have championed many civic issues. I understand that local government must do it's best to represent all of the people who make up Austin.
Please describe your appreciation for the City of Austin's diverse demographics and geography. Prior to coming to Austin, I lived in San Antonio for 8 1/2 years. In that entire time I never felt at home. After moving to Austin I always felt that this was my home. What drew me to Austin since the first time I came here in my college years during the 90s was that someone could be a cowboy and someone could be a transvestite and all were accepted. Having lived here for 15 years I have seen the changes and how different area of town have shifted from Hispanic and African American to a mix of races. I currently live in East Austin in a neighborhood which is a mix of new homes and older homes which has a diverse swatch of races and incomes.
Please provide your employment history. I have 25 years of experience in Architecture and Construction industry. I have managed many project from small home additions to 5,000,000 sf mixed use developments. I have been self employed and work for establish firms. My career has made me adaptable and willing to learn even today.
Please provide any other information you wish to be considered during the selection of the most qualified applicants for the Commission. My professional and civic interests have engaged me in the Image Austin and Code Next process. I have been involved with as many open forums as possible. Nearly from the beginning of Imagine Austin and still I am currently working as a member of the Urban Land Institute to educate people of the potential changes to the development code and the impact of those changes.
