Please describe your relevant analytical skills. Being a former Title I Educator and Principal, I was immersed heavily in the community working with families and stakeholders alike. My current profession allows me the opportunity to work and interact with all ages, genders, races and professions. No matter who I am working with or for, everyone is held to a standard of high value to me. I am passionate about people and the community. Austin deserves the opportunity to thrive as change continues to be our constant. I am highly trained to listen, calculate and appropriately step into action for what's fair and in the best interest of the subject matter/people at hand. I put 100% into everything I do which includes leaving what I found better, and I'd love the opportunity to give back and do this for Austin.
Please describe your ability to be impartial. I'm highly trained to look at a situation and weigh the human factor with the analytics and politics to do what's in the best interest of people. I am able to step outside of any situation and see both sides. Decisions I make are mostly research based (numbers don't lie) while having empathy for a human factor. So when you combine statistics/fact, a work ethic knowing you've exhausted all alternatives to arrive at a decision alongside knowing in your heart you have the entity's best interest in mind, this in my opinion, is being impartial. Secondly, I'm a Libra - balanced.
Please describe your appreciation for the City of Austin's diverse demographics and geography. What makes Austin tick are the people. This place is a lake of blue surrounded by a sea of red for lack of better summarization. If you've read Linchpin by Seth Godin, then you know about the village mentality and how we need to give back to our own to tribe (great read if you haven't already). My point being here, somewhere along the way in 'society' the "rich" stopped giving to the "poor" and we stopped lending a neighbor a hand without wanting something in return. Austin citizens deserve fair elections, taxes and monies disbursed to name a few. What makes us "weird" is our culture, so let's keep the "weird" in and alive so that we can not lose ourselves. Our city growing is like when a start up gets bought out by a competitor and then again by a private equity firm who sacrifices culture and the people for the dollar sign. We do not want that for our city! We want to evolve and set a precedent for how to grow quickly while keeping the ones that raised here to see it flourish!
Please provide your employment history. 2016-Present: Hairstylist & Regional Educator for Eufora International 2014-2015: Principal/Academic Manger at Pace Center for Girls, Alternative Middle/High School, 6-12, Jacksonville FL 2010-2014: Assistant Principal, WE Cherry Elementary School, Orange Park, FL 2005-2010: Classroom Teacher I listen. I am a lifelong learner with a Master's Degree in how to lead people using research based strategies such as 'situational leadership'. I've worked alongside superintendents to train entire districts that are of all different socioeconomic statuses. And truthfully, if I can get 100 (mostly) women, older and more veteran than me in their career to follow my leadership style and vision, then I can pretty much do anything. I'm immersed with people every day and soak in everything they tell me - I ask questions of people and here what this city needs/craves from Austinites probably more than most to be honest. Although I don't specialize in redrawing district lines, I am excellent at making impartial decisions after listening to constituents and politicians alike. I am fair, balanced and successful.
Please provide any other information you wish to be considered during the selection of the most qualified applicants for the Commission. I've worked with low socioeconomic communities the majority of my adult life and have a passion for doing what's not just right for the people but by the people.
