Please describe your relevant analytical skills. My experience in public accounting and corporate finance have strengthened my ability to clearly frame and define a problem, state the relevant assumptions, and demonstrate a range of options. Identifying risks/challenges and highlighting opportunities are a key part of this paradigm. Redistricting will require a strong understanding of this framework, and I know I have mastered these analytical skills to be an effective contributor to this commission. (PricewaterhouseCoopers and Intel)
Please describe your ability to be impartial. My experience in customer service and retail has taught me that there is always more than one perspective regarding issues. There is my truth; there is your truth, and THE truth is most likely a combination of the two. It could be 50/50 or more skewed. However, it is critical to consider all relevant pieces of data and to fairly weigh information - granted that it is reliable and verified. As much as is humanly possible, I am dedicated to providing a fair, unbiased, and impartial voice on the commission.(Food service and Target)
Please describe your appreciation for the City of Austin's diverse demographics and geography. As a former resident of South and Far West Texas (and now Central), I understand that our state - and our city - is filled with diversity. Our diversity in color, thought, speech, religion, and creed is also our greatest asset. Cultivating a balance in demographics will draw talent and opportunity to the City of Austin and will cause our capital to flourish richly. My personal and professional affiliations reflect my commitment to diversity, and I believe that my mindset of culture awareness and inclusivity will be an asset to the commission. (APAPA, CSOC, Central Texas Food Bank)
Please provide your employment history. My professional experience at the FBI is a testament to my values and character. In my role in the Complex Financial Crimes unit, I supported a joint probe with the SEC investigating white collar crime in our area of responsibility. Experiences like this taught me the importance of cooperation among government stakeholders, and I am confident I will bring the same collaborative attitude, strong work ethic, and honesty to further our commission's purpose. Conversely, I understand that there will be differences in opinion. At Intel, I learned a crucial lesson: "disagree and commit". Even if I personally disagree with our commission's overall decision, I will commit to serving 100% of my ability and time to make that decision a success. On the basis of consensus and the benefit of our Austin residents, I am willing to dedicate the professionalism at the highest standards. (DOJ/FBI/Intel)
Please provide any other information you wish to be considered during the selection of the most qualified applicants for the Commission. As a student with a background in financial services and as a candidate for the Texas CPA exam, I have learned the standard of ethics required of me. If selected, I will apply my classroom and professional knowledge to support and serve the commission in our endeavors to the best of my ability. As a resident, all I can say is that I love the City of Austin (the place I call home) and want only the best for my fellow Austinites. Thank you sincerely for your consideration.
