Please describe your relevant analytical skills. Project Management & Technical Scoping: In work, I project manage technical scoping and project implementation. This spans across three to five teams, depending on the project. Sales Scoping: I scope, negotiate and prioritize client requirements and goals, working with clients from different departments and needs under one enterprise. I determine what needs to be conveyed and done to sell appropriate, viable solutions. I appreciate and exercise organization, timeliness and communication. Statistics + Reports: Studied statistics for my Sociology degree. Regularly use Microsoft Excel and Salesforce platforms to create sales and budgeting forecasts. Worked in direct marketing and created ROI and P&L analyses. Volunteer Recruit: For five years, evaluated candidates' suitability for volunteer work on suicide crisis hotline. Launched book publishing division: Managed project, budget and teams to produce and sell coffee table books related to architecture and interior design.
Please describe your ability to be impartial. I believe it's critical to consider all perspectives and "sides" in order to come to an informed decision that accommodates as many needs as possible. Integrity and fairness is critical to the buy-in and success of a good initiative. I have had the good fortune of moving from one socioeconomic class to another and have experiences that span across various social classes and situations across needs and privilege.
Please describe your appreciation for the City of Austin's diverse demographics and geography. I make it a point to live, socialize, and volunteer in with as many diverse populations as possible in Austin. It's central to my values and my happiness. Austin is a very diverse place that, like most cities, struggles with issues of residential segregation and inequality. I love living in District 1 which boasts a mix of long-time, native Austinites as well as new immigrants. Other parts of Austin are diverse in other ways, too. With a senior mother and a decade-younger brother, I get the opportunity to learn about the benefits and challenges of lives across generations in Austin. I work, play and volunteer with people of all ages, income levels, sexual orientations and races. I make it a point to get to know populations with which I'm less familiar, such as the homeless.
Please provide your employment history. Work history: Direct Marketing and Sales from 2001 - present. 2000 - Administrative Assistant. Worked in publishing and media from 2001 and technology starting in 2015. Working in consultative sales roles for almost two decades, I have excellent organizational skills and exercise teamwork and initiative to complete sales with creative and technical teams. I enjoy working well with others, but I also recognize that working well with others is critical to effectiveness and morale. In both advertising and technology sales, it is critical to reach out to potential customers, customers, and colleagues to initiate and execute successful projects. I can gather information, create presentations, convey ideas clearly and organize teams. I understand how important it is to consistently reach out to people to communicate and move projects along.
Please provide any other information you wish to be considered during the selection of the most qualified applicants for the Commission. Serving the community has been central to my life. Since 2000 I have consistently volunteered with causes that address financial/residential inequality, educational inequality, mental health, disaster relief, domestic violence, homelessness and food insecurity. I am a 2019 graduate of Austin's CityWorks Academy program. I grew up as a child of immigrants who ran a convenience store in small-town Louisiana and lived in New York City prior to moving to Austin. I've been in Austin for the last seven years. I have a wide range of experiences with poverty, violence, residential segregation, gentrification, and inequities in the workplace and healthcare. While I've volunteered regularly, I'm ready to commit to effecting change in a more sustained, formal manner. I hope I have the opportunity to serve the City of Austin and my fellow citizens in the Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission. It would be an honor to help shape the future of our city so that it serves all of us equally.
