Please describe your relevant analytical skills. | 43 years as a stage manager and theatre manager in analyzing productions as well as all business aspects of running a theatre company. This includes Box-Office, Marketing, budgeting, etc.aspects. I have served on the Peer Panel Review Committees for the City of Austin and the Texas Arts Commission (1990's) I am Past President of the Austin Circle of Theatres serving in that capacity for three years. I served on the Board of Hyde Park Theatre. |
Please describe your ability to be impartial. | I was raised by parents who were years ahead of their time. They taught men to never judge a person by their color, their sex, etc. I have served on committees many times where partiality was essential. I can view things openly and I LISTEN!. I'll ask the question regardless if it sounds like a stupid one or there needs more clarity on the subject. I ask many questions. |
Please describe your appreciation for the City of Austin's diverse demographics and geography. | I'm not sure of the Diversity given we have a small African American population. I recognize Austin is a well read city and that we have a high percentage of Austinites who have degrees, so they are mainly well educated. The city offers the wonderful Hill Country, plains, rivers and lakes. The only thing not present is a large mountain. |
Please provide your employment history. | I am an Adjunct Professor of Stage Management and Theatre Management since 2000 at St. Edward's University. As stated, I have served on numerous city and state Arts Commissions. I served on the Board of Directors of The Austin Circle of Theatres (now Austin Creative Alliance) for 8 years, 3 years as President. I have staged managed over 150 professional productions involving hundreds of people. As Stage Manager, I am the hub of the wheel of a production. Coordination. Communication. Safety. Overall view of the theatrical elements. I served 8 years on the Council of Actor's Equity Association, the union of professional actors and stage managers of America. I currently serve on two National Committees of that union (Stage Managers Committee and Developing Theatres Committee). I was the Equity Liaison for the Austin / San Antonio Area for 18 years. I am semi retired and now teach just one class a semester. I have not stage managed a production in 5 years. I currently serve on the Highland Park West Balcones Area Neighborhood Associations (HPWBANA) Board of Directors. I also serve on the Austin Neighborhood Council representing the HPWBANA |
Please provide any other information you wish to be considered during the selection of the most qualified applicants for the Commission. | I have lived in Austin since 1976. I vote in EVERY election. I am a behind the scenes kind of person. I don't look for publicity or seek recognition. I want to do my part for the good of the city. |
