Please describe your relevant analytical skills. In my work as a human resources professional, I examine employment actions and monitor for adverse impact to any demographic group, in accordance with the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Chapter 21 of the Texas Labor Code. I investigate claims of discrimination, sexual harassment, and retaliation. When conducting investigations I analyze both quantitative and qualitative data and must identify facts, recurring narrative trends and other evidence in drawing reasonable conclusions.
Please describe your ability to be impartial. In my professional endeavors of conducting investigations, I maintain an objective and impartial position in performing the scope of work. My specialty in Human Resources is Employee Relations. The work demand impartially in order to accurately inform my employer of the facts. With each consultation, mediation or investigation, I must check for my own biases and consider how they could impact my judgement, such that it is a daily exercise in which I engage. As a former doctoral candidate, I also learned to conduct research, identify sources with citations to state defend a position, without interjecting my personal feelings into the equation.
Please describe your appreciation for the City of Austin's diverse demographics and geography. I am a 60 year resident of the City of Austin. I lived in East Austin for 34 years and have lived in Northeast Austin for 26 years. I was a part of the initial school desegregation programs in the early 1970s, having been bused to integrated bot Pearce Jr High and Reagan High schools. I spent 21 years working for Motorola Semiconductors, which was a leadership diversity and inclusion in the workplace, with sites in East Austin and South West Austin. I have also mentored a number of students in AISD schools from a variety of demographic backgrounds. I am an outdoors person who understands and values diversity in plant and animal species and the connectivity between overall human wellness and environmental viability.
Please provide your employment history. I am currently the Employee Relations Manager for Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. I serve a diverse workforce, who's daily endeavors are to preserve the natural resources of Texas. I have worked in Human Resources for Travis County Government and the City of Austin in which I specialized in Employee Relations. Prior to working in the government sector, I worked in the private sector at Motorola Semiconductors as the Human Resources Development Manager 1989 -1999, and a variety of role including Manufacturing supervisor from 1979-89.
Please provide any other information you wish to be considered during the selection of the most qualified applicants for the Commission. In volunteerism, I served two terms on the Board of Directors for Austin Habitat for Humanity in the 1990's during which time we built our first subdivision in Austin, expanded the restore vision, and facilitated the strategic planning work sessions. I volunteered in leading and facilitating a number of work session in getting the former Reagan High School off of the state's closure list, which was a diverse collaborative endeavor.
