Please describe your relevant analytical skills. Skilled in demographic, employment, market, land use, and transportation analysis using geographic and time-series data. Familiar with political and policy history of Austin. Experienced crossing between data and policy realms. I focus professionally on public transportation modeling and policy, but have experience in land use planning, environmental planning, and affordable housing.
Please describe your ability to be impartial. I have done technical work for a variety of local clients (including CAMPO, CARTS, and Capital Metro, and their peers both in Texas and across the US; however, not including the City of Austin) balancing the needs of the community with available resources. I understand the need for difficult policy decisions and the deployment of imperfect solutions to "wicked problems". While I am lucky enough to not need to compromise my values professionally, I have worked through many difficult situations, managing stakeholders with conflicting and valid interests in the outcome of the work.
Disclaimer Signature Scott Thomas Boone
Please describe your appreciation for the City of Austin's diverse demographics and geography. Austin is a difficult city to live in. I can see how the creativity and passion and joy and cruelty and hatred and fear have influenced where are streets go, where our parks and schools are, where we gather and where we avoid going. I have worked in public policy long enough to know that diverse and engaged representation is truly where the power to change the course of cities and urban areas lies, and I am committed to helping in the process wherever i can.
Please provide your employment history. Transportation Analyst - Cambridge Systematics, Austin, TX - 2015-Present Research Fellow - Center for Environmental Modeling for Policy Development, Chapel Hill, NC - 2012-2015 Affordable Housing Analyst - BRIDGE Housing, San Francisco, CA - 2008-2012 Skills: Data Analysis, Data Visualization, GIS, Policy and Planning Research, Project Management, Technical Writing, Public Speaking
Please provide any other information you wish to be considered during the selection of the most qualified applicants for the Commission. It would be an honor to serve. I believe my technical background brings a solid fluency in the data used to make these decisions, and my policy background and personal interest give me the context to understand the nuance required in making these decisions. I hope that I am able to offer a useful skillset and passionate voice while serving as a part of a diverse and representative team.
