Please describe your relevant analytical skills. In my role as a Product Owner, one of my main responsibilities is making data driven decisions about what to pursue in the product and how. That means gathering both quantitative and qualitative data and using critical thinking to analyze and being able to communicate how the patterns in that data inform the choices I make.
Please describe your ability to be impartial. Everyone has implicit biases but I am acutely aware of that and try to always be aware of and examine my biases and how they might impact my decision making. When in undergrad and graduate school, I took a number of courses in sociology and anthropology which instilled in me the importance of listening to people who are different from me and attempting to understand their perspective before passing judgement.
Please describe your appreciation for the City of Austin's diverse demographics and geography. As someone who grew up in a small town that was racially, culturally, and economically homogeneous, I am grateful for the opportunity to live in a city with diverse demographics. It has expanded my horizons in so many ways, from exposing me to new religious customs and cultural practices to introducing me to new foods and musical traditions. That being said, Austin has less diversity than a lot of similar sized cities and has growing challenges like affordability that are pushing BIPOC communities outside of the city which I think is a problem the city needs to do more to address. We should think of diversity of an asset that we cultivate and nurture same as we do our music scene and our tech industry.
