Please describe your relevant analytical skills. I am a strong and effective communicator. In my daily work as a Sr. Customer Success Manager at WP Engine, I pull server data for my clients and identify patterns in their web traffic. With the support of this data, I am able to provide educated recommendations to help optimize my clients’ site performance and influence their overall web strategy. I am also very confident presenting data to internal stakeholders, and recently led the launch of an internal customer recognition program. I am comfortable working with others and see the value in using data as a starting point for planning discussions.
Please describe your ability to be impartial. I see every conversation and interaction as a learning opportunity to further educate myself. I understand I have much to learn from my colleagues, neighbors, friends, constituents, family, or even complete strangers, and treat every interaction as a chance to learn more and strive to be a well rounded person. My ability to be impartial is based on my core belief of equality and justice for all. I think every person has a right to voice their opinion and taking the time to listen to these opinions only allows you to learn and further expand your point of view.
Please describe your appreciation for the City of Austin's diverse demographics and geography. I've spent my entire adult life in Austin, TX. I moved here when I was 18 to attend St. Edward's University, and was immediately immersed in the vast diversity across the campus and the city of Austin. I’ve grown with Austin; I’ve experienced the tech boom and economic growth, and have been very fortunate to make Austin my home. I've always believed Austin is a diverse community, but lately it has become very clear that our rapid growth does not serve ALL communities across Austin. Austin remains one of the most economically and physically segregated cities in the nation, with a rapidly declining African American population. I am very eager to understand the new consensus data and see how we can realign city council districts and ensure there is fair, and diverse representation across our entire city.
Please provide your employment history. WP Engine, January 2018 - Present Bazaarvoice, December 2012 - December 2017 Central Texas Food Bank, Feb 2011 - November 2012 Facebook, July 2010 - January 2011 I’ve had the opportunity to work at very prominent tech companies (Facebook, Bazaarvoice, and WP Engine), and also spent a few years of my career in the nonprofit sector, at The Central Texas Food Bank. I'm incredibly personable, and enjoy organizing events for clients and colleagues I work with. I am most interested in organizing meetings for each city district and involving constituents into the decision making process. I am well suited for the community engagement aspect required of this role, as I have previous experience as a Community Events Coordinator (Central Texas Food Bank) to help organize large city-wide events such as Austin Reggae Fest, Austin Monthly Hot Sauce Festival, in addition to numerous opportunities volunteering to food distribution sites in food desert areas across Central Texas. I am a Voting Deputy Registrar and lead onsite registration stations at my current company, WP Engine.
Please provide any other information you wish to be considered during the selection of the most qualified applicants for the Commission. I was disappointed to see that I missed the November 2014 general elections, which does not meet the minimum requirements for the Commission. I felt it was still worth submitting my application, given I will be voting in the primaries in July 2020 and also the general elections in November 2020. I have recently grown more involved with local politics and spend my spare time better understanding who our Austin representatives are, and the policies recently passed. I also am fiercely dedicated to helping Travis County citizens register to vote, and will be serving as an election poll working for July and November elections.
