Please describe your relevant analytical skills. In my current position, I am researching the feasibility of creating regional governance bodies for the parts of rural Texas that are eligible to receive Continuum of Care Program funding from HUD through the Texas Balance of State Continuum of Care. The purpose of this would be to more fairly represent the needs of local homeless service providers by giving them an opportunity to share their needs with with the agency that administers funding on behalf of the Texas Balance of State Continuum of Care. This has involved learning which organization receiving funding (including other types of HUD funding) are already working together, how they interact with local and state governmental organizations related to their work, and how other Balance of State Continuums of Care have created regional bodies that work effectively to end homelessness. The process that I have proposed to the Texas Balance of State Continuum of Care Board is very similar the redistricting process described here.
Please describe your ability to be impartial. I have strong moral and ethical beliefs, but I am also open-minded and always try to be aware of my own biases. For transparency, I am an active member of Austin Democratic Socialists of America, but I don't think that my political beliefs will affect my impartiality. I plan to pursue a masters in social work in the near future, and I believe strongly in the ethical code of that profession. I would bring that same mind-set to this process.
Please describe your appreciation for the City of Austin's diverse demographics and geography. Having lived in Austin for 16 years, I have been saddened to see many people of color priced out of the city. I would hope that redistricting might help to more fairly represent the voices of people that are increasingly having less impact in decision-making about Austin's future. It would be a huge loss to the culture of Austin to lose the perspective and experiences of black and brown people.

Please provide any other information you wish to be considered during the selection of the most qualified applicants for the Commission. I would like serve on this commission to make sure that those who have been affected by the high cost of living in Austin are given an opportunity to be heard. The lack of affordable housing in Austin is acutely felt by the majority of it's citizens.
