Please describe your relevant analytical skills. I am inclined to not just think about the immediate impact of redistricting, but the long-term implications. For any proposal that I suggest or support, I will take the time to break it apart and attempt to crack it. I serve as my own adversary and analyzing and critiquing proposed solutions to this powerful transformation that will happen in Austin. I also have a well-rounded background that has connected me to industries in Austin ranging from tech, to law, to education, and the non-profit sector. I also want to add that I have a strong math mind that will easily analyze any quantitative data that will be provided to help us with our decision making. I feel comfortable studying and reviewing all forms of data, both qualitative and quantitative during our meetings.
Please describe your ability to be impartial. I grew up in Northwest Austin, lived in Central Austin as a college student, I work in South Austin as a teacher, and I do most of my service in East Austin. There isn't a single community in this City that does not have a deep place in my heart. I think we can come up with a solution that benefits every neighborhood and gives everyone the chance to have a greater say in the future of Austin.
Please describe your appreciation for the City of Austin's diverse demographics and geography. As a high school teacher working in East and South Austin, I have enjoyed a diverse network of parents, coworkers, families, and friends. As a volunteer at non-profits throughout the Austin area for the last fifteen years, I have seen the challenges faced by our most vulnerable populations. Having been raised in Northwest Austin, I remain committed to providing a voice to every corner of this city, to every background, to every nationality, and to every status. I have fought for clients in our courtrooms, I have mentored our students in classrooms, and I will support every community on this commission.
Please provide your employment history. I am unbiased, I am willing to listen, and I want what is best for EVERY neighborhood in this city. I have a legal background that will help me understand and fulfill my obligations in this role, much the same way that I have served as a resource for understanding education law for Austin ISD and my school. I have a connection to every segment of our population. If we want to capture the voice of young Austinites, talk to a teacher. If you want the voice of young professionals, talk to an young attorney. If you want the voice of underrepresented populations and migrants, talk to someone who has advocated for those populations for years. My combined background in law and education and my very math centered mind allow me to serve this commission and this city well.
Please provide any other information you wish to be considered during the selection of the most qualified applicants for the Commission. This is a City that I truly care about. There are few people who have become connected to as much of Austin as I have. Regardless of education status, socioeconomic status, immigration status, race, or any other demographic distinction, my experiences in Austin have allowed me to learn and benefit from the voices from every corner and segment of our community. I know that I will come in to the commission ready to listen, ready to collaborate, and ready to add new voices to my understanding and opinions about how boundary lines can be best utilized for the benefit of ALL of Austin.
